Excess solar power can be used for much more interesting things rather than merely dissipating it up to the National Grid for much less money than it costs you to buy their dirty electric back. We can weld metal too.

Energy
The renewable energy we generate at Springstone is put to many different uses. Solar generated power is fed to our sinewave inverter, which feeds our energy-efficient Risc OS computer systems for Ecoworks, and also a 12v distribution board for other uses in the summer when production exceeds Ecoworks' demand. This inverted power is also used in our audio studio. The wind turbine feeds our square-wave inverter, for powering various tools, and our 12v distribution board.
The distribution board diverts a 12v renewable energy supply to power our answering machine, AA battery charger and various small appliances such as a Psion 5MX. This board also powers our greenhouse irrigation water pump (taking water from one of our springs), security system, various lighting applications and has cigar lighter sockets into which we can plug an array of 12v devices for use in situ or for charging - our portable vehicle jump start/compressor for example, or leisure batteries for use in and around Springstone.
The 6kw generator has 240v and 110v outlets (2 of each) and is used to power our large water pump to raise water from another spring into IBC containers to irrigate the polytunnel. It is portable (just!) and powers various tools and garden machinery.
