Veggie Plot
The first establishment of a vegetable plot we had here was in the front gardens and it was very successful for quite a number of years, but after a couple of wet summers giving blight and slug infestations we were forced to retreat and established our polytunnel for food production. Some of the more hardy root crops such as potatoes were no longer grown
Now, with the landscaping of the back paddock, plans are afoot to once again have a veggie plot. We have recently discovered an excellent source of good quality horse dung so that should speed things up a bit. We have put in a new gate to facilitate easy access to the vegetable plot by our trailer and you can probably hazard a guess at what we've called it, but you're likely to be wrong. We've called it the 'East Gate', as it lies on our eastern boundary.
This will finally get us to have the 'flowers at the front, veg at the back' set-up which tends to be the normal way of doing things. We are even setting aside the old pig sty as a garden tool and implement shed complete with vegetable cold store.
If it wasn't for having to make a badminton court and campsite we could make a commercial go of this organic food production thing. A Plan B, perhaps ...
