Inside
Of course the inside of this house could read like an estate agent pamphlet - cosy inglenook, French doors to patio with holy well, wood-fired range, galleried landing, 30ft kitchen - but let's stop right there, because this place is not for sale. Instead, let's focus on just a couple of features.
The entire central front room of the cottage has a beamed ceiling. These beams are 30ft long, perfectly straight and are rich red in colour. In other words, the upstairs bedrooms in the cottage are supported by one species of tree - the giant redwood (from the New World). This would tie in with its earliest renovation.
In contrast to the cottage side, shown on the left, we have the impressive Victorian extension with its high ceilings, large windows, coving, dado and picture rails, not forgetting the lovely old tiled cast-iron fireplace.
These two period styles give us the best of both worlds, the cottage rooms with their small windows are remarkably cool even on the hottest summer's day whilst the Victorian side has a light and airy feeling throughout the year.
